Two Routines You Should Never Skip

Beautycounter likes to promote four-step skincare regimens of Cleanse, Prep, Treat, and Protect. I say that at least two of those are optional, depending on your skin's needs. But two of those should never be skipped!

Always Cleanse and Protect!! You only need the prep step if you need the treat step. That's my opinion, anyways.

Make it a habit to wash your face and put on a moisturizer every morning and every night. No more excuses.

"Why should I wash my face every night?" you ask.

To remove the pollutants, dirt, bacteria, and (possibly) makeup from your face. You don't want all that gross stuff sinking in your skin while you sleeping and rubbing onto your pillow. After washing your face, use a night cream. Night creams are typically thicker than day creams, and usually don't contain active ingredients. They are often more moisturizing which encourages your skin cells to regenerate while you sleep.

"Why do I have to wash my face in the morning if I washed it before bed?" you wonder.

To wash off the sweat, dead skin cells, and night cream, of course! Now it's time for your day cream. Day creams are typically lighter and have active ingredients in them for improving your skin during the day. Moisturizers are key to keeping the moisture barrier on your skin intact. Your skin needs a healthy balance of moisture to not only prevent dry skin, but to keep bacteria out and prevent breakouts or other skin problems.

Here is what I use on the days that I only have time for the basics:

My go-to every morning is the Countermatch Cleansing Milk. I apply 2-3 pumps to my dry face then wash it off with a wet Norwex body cloth. My favorite day-time moisturizer is the Countermatch Adaptive Moisture Lotion. All I need is a pump and a half to cover my face and neck. It feels like a thick cream but goes on like a light-weight cream. The best part is that it keeps my skin feeling hydrated all day long without feeling greasy.

If I'm not wearing makeup, then I use the Countermatch Cleansing Milk at night, too. But if I have makeup to wash off, I cleanse my face using the Cleansing Balm. I apply an almond sized amount evenly over my dry face and rub it in well (gently, of course). Then I use a wet Norwex body cloth to wipe it off. It might take a couple swipes with the cloth, but it removes all my makeup like a charm! My favorite night cream for my skin’s needs is the Countermatch Recovery Sleeping Cream. I use two pumps to cover my face and neck.
